Next Generation Science Standards Certification Program (Tier 1)

IRVINE, Calif. (August 14, 2020) — Presented by the UCI Teacher Academy and the newly established UCI Science Project, this certification program supports secondary science teachers and leaders in implementing the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Teachers will develop an understanding of how students learn to deconstruct the NGSS, and will center instruction around sense-making to align to the next-generation science standards. Teachers will also leverage the NGSS to support every student as equity-centered educators.

Teachers Who Complete the Program Will Receive:

  • Opportunities to develop networks and collaborate across school sites
  • Official professional certification
  • An electronic copy of the NSTA Press Science and Engineering Practices Guide
  • An option to purchase two quarter units for $150 through the UCI Division of Continuing Education
  • Special invitation to the NGSS book club for continued development

Program Fee: $85* – Purchase orders accepted by district personnel and special schedule arrangements to accommodate site schedules are available. Please contact Dr. Kelley Le to make arrangements to get your school certified.

* – UCI MAT or CalTeach Mentors, students, and supervisors may be eligible for a program fee waiver. Please indicate your status on the registration survey.

SCHEDULE

There are three sessions available in fall 2020, each with two cohorts to choose from. Attendees need to only register for, and complete one cohort to receive certification.

Registrants must attend all meetings in a cohort to receive certification
