In May 2018, SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union donated $300,000 to the UCI School of Education to establish the UCI Teacher Academy. The gift provides operational funding for the first three years of the academy, as well as stipends for local public school teachers to participate in the programs.

“Building collaborations with local schools is a priority for the UCI School of Education, and we are grateful to SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union for its generous support in this endeavor,” said Richard Arum, dean and professor of the UCI School of Education. “Orange County schools are incredibly diverse, with a wide range of goals and demands. The UCI Teacher Academy allows us to provide a home for teachers and local educators so that together we can improve educational opportunities and outcomes for students of all backgrounds.”

“Supporting professional development for educators is directly aligned with our organization’s vision,” said Bill Cheney (left), president and CEO of SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union. “Educators build the future, and the work they do is incredibly important in shaping the next generation of leaders.”

Founded in 1934 as the Orange County Teachers Credit Union, SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union provides financial services to members of the educational community in California.
