Program Objectives

The Fortifying Liberty’s Legacy: Cultivating Informed Citizens Through History and Innovation program will create learning opportunities for over 400 K-12 secondary history and civics teachers that will commemorate the founding of the United States through professional development seminars, institutes, and a conference. The program will center the foundational documents relevant for understanding the ideas that shape our constitutional republic and provide educators with deep learning opportunities to study, discuss, and reflect on how these inform American citizenship.

Goals

Goal 1: Increase teacher content knowledge of founding principles to commemorate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding

Goal 2: Teachers learn new strategies to support the reading of primary sources

Goal 3: Teachers integrate AI-enhanced literacy instruction in their classrooms

Goal 4: Teachers and students commemorate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding by showcasing their learning of the founding principles
